My name is Jeff Wise and I love the game of baseball and everything that goes along with it.
I come from a baseball family. My dad played ball when he was young and I love hearing his stories.
He actually played against Rollie Fingers back in the day!
My dad had to raise his own money to buy his cleats and other gear. He did it for the love of the game.
My brother started playing baseball and was an excellent pitcher, first baseman and third baseman. He could do it all.
He played on the All-Star team every single year and was even selected to play on an elite travel team.
Then he received a scholarship to play at a college in Oregon and was successful there as well.
My Baseball Playing Experience
I started playing when I was six years old. My first team was the Sopwith Camels. I played first and outfield. I still have the jersey from that team hanging up in a closet! Oh the memories!
Eventually I played ball for 14 years.
I was on many all-star teams and participated on teams that won a total of two state championships, district titles and regional titles. I played on school teams, city league teams, summer travel teams and fall league teams as well.
My favorite moments besides all the team wins was in high school when I hit two grand slam homeruns in the same week!
The second one was in a district playoff game and it actually ended the game. I’m not sure if it was because the right fielder ran into the fence or that we were winning by 15 runs!
The last time I played in a baseball game was a high school alumni event.
I struck out and grounded out before I had my final at-bat.
I finally got a hold of one and hit it off the fence in dead center field. What a rush!
My Post Baseball Playing Days
I have stayed involved with sports my whole life after my playing days. I’ve worked at an ABC television station, ESPN and sporting events all over including NFL, NHL, NBA, MLB and a ton of college sports.
My oldest daughter played one year of softball as a seven year old. She had a ton of fun and turned out to be a great hitter. She’s now retired.
As of January 2019 my son is signed up for his first year of baseball. T-ball.
He got his first bat ever and calls it the “Iron Man” bat!
Needless to say, sports has been a part of the majority of my life. I love the competition, the sounds and the smells.
My Passion For Baseball Played Out Today
One of my favorite gifts to receive for birthdays, Christmas and before each season was all the great youth baseball equipment. I remember one Christmas I got one of those cool SSK gloves with the dimples inside. Remember those!
I have gone through and used a ton of equipment over the years. I want to share all this information I have about baseball equipment with you because it can get confusing looking for the right stuff.
There are so many options out there and it can get confusing sometimes and I want you to choose the right things.
I hope you find the information helpful and can create some great memories.
I also want to share a wealth of baseball tips which will include drills, knowledge of the game and how you can be the best player you want to become.
If you have any comments, questions, ideas or you want a specific piece of baseball equipment reviewed, there are several ways in which you can express yourself:
1. Email me via my email address: info (at) thebaseballdiamond.com
2. Comment on one of my blog posts
3. Message me via the Facebook page
I will answer your questions as soon as I possibly can. I know how important it is to get the answers you need.
Please also visit my Google+ page and share my posts so that other players will easily be able to find the information they need to be successful at this wonderful sport.
Contests and Giveaways
One of my most favorite things to do is hold a contest or giveaway.
I’ve built relationships with many companies (Mizuno, DeMarini and Marucci to name a few) and they send me incredible products to review.
My reviews are more credible and real if I have the actual product in my hand.
Many times I test the products to see how they perform.
Either way, I’ve given away brand new equipment such as bats, cleats, gloves, batting gloves and so much more.
Keep an eye on the blog, Facebook page and Twitter feed because you never know when I’m going to be giving something away.
